Press: Excellent! – CURV 500® Series now available

Germany’s pro audio brand, LD Systems, has struck a strong chord in the marketplace with its ultra-compact and portable array system, as pre-orders continue to exceed all expectations. Now the CURV 500® Series is available – and has already received its prestigious design award.

Highest International Prize
The German Design Council has bestowed the “German Design Award 2016”, its highest international prize, to the CURV 500® System for its overall concept. Winners of this competition are selected according to the highest standards and the strictest criteria. Through a unique nomination process, new products and projects are evaluated, which are deemed to be leading the way in terms of German and international design innovation.

The jury statement by Cees de Bont, Deborah Dawton and Moni Wolf says: “The portable speaker system CURV 500® is characterised by an integrated mixer and wireless plug-and-play connection of the satellites. The light design of the subwoofer offers ergonomic comfort, whereby its form conveys subtlety and ease of use. Technically speaking, the compact line array featuring innovative sound and professional configuration options for a wide variety of applications, was very convincing.”

The German Design Award is one of the most prestigious in the industry
The German Design Awards is known for its strict criteria and highest of standards in the design of products, which are chosen by a jury from a mass of products, and then admitted to participate in the competition. The German Design Award does not accept applications or submissions, but rather consists of a panel of international experts, who are exclusively engaged with all nominations. With over 3,000 nominations, the professional jury drew a maximum of ten winners in each of the 20 categories.

CURV 500®: scalable at will
The big innovation in the compact systems category, the CURV 500® combines mobility, sound perfection and ease-of-use in a unique, and fully scalable system. Here, the speaker columns can accommodate up to four modular, curve-shaped array satellites. The result is an extremely clear, three-dimensional sound –
similar to the sound of the large line arrays. The system can also be configured for a wide range of applications: from the solo performance at the party to sound system applications in small halls. With the Entertainer Set, the powerful Power Set and the visually discreet AV Set, three basic configurations are available, which can be extended and individualised at any time. For this purpose, numerous optional extensions are available. For instance, with the optional wall and ceiling mounting systems, the satellites can be installed anywhere, where good sound and subtle appearance are required. For even more power, a total of eight array satellites can be operated in stereo mode (max. four on each side).

High quality materials as well as housing options available in black and white meet the aesthetic requirements of many users and architects.

One click, countless possibilities
The system is based on the SmartLink® adapter. Building on this, up to four satellite speakers can effortlessly be fitted into each other by means of a click mechanism. Also, the connection to the subwoofer is made via the adapter, which serves as a control unit for the system. The subwoofer is at the same time a classic bass cabinet and a digital mixer. Instruments, microphones, and also laptops can be connected to the 4-channel mixer. Built-in Bluetooth® technology enables wireless data transfer. And with the 24-bit processor, 16 digital sound effects can be set within seconds.

Already a single 12 x 12 cm array satellite achieves the best sound results. This is guaranteed by the WaveAhead® technology, specially developed by LD Systems. Here, three tweeters are vertically arranged before a powerful low midrange driver to perfectly merge and distribute the sound.
