New Additions to the DDQ Family – the LD Systems DDQ Series Subwoofers

After successfully introducing the DDQ 10″ and 12″ fullrange loudspeakers a while ago LD Systems have now added two active cardioid subwoofers to the series providing a tight, punchy bottom end for the line’s satellite speakers.

The brand new models DDQ Sub 18 and DDQ Sub 212 are powered by two high-performance Hypex Class D amplifier modules sharing a high-efficiency SMPS. They deliver 700 watts continuous each and a total of 2.800 watts peak power. The DDQ subwoofers have been designed to perfectly complement the series’ fullrange speakers, and their compact 18mm ply cabinets are set up for convenient castor mounting. The DDQ Sub 18 is equipped with an 18″ FaitalPRO woofer while the DDQ Sub 212 is loaded with dual 12″ custom neodymium drivers.

Featuring a dynamic range of 127dB/113 dB ADC/DAC the DDQ subwoofers’ Sharc DSP has been custom-programmed for LD Systems. It provides all filtering, phase alignment and comprehensive protections plus a peak limiter with 1ms look-ahead time for reliable, distortion-free audio even at maximum levels. Crossover is selectable from 80 – 120 Hz while 8 presets allow for easy cardioid sub array configuration. The input and output connectors are made by Neutrik, and lockable volume and preset encoders prevent accidental adjustment.

The DDQ Sub 18 and DDQ Sub 212 have been engineered for demanding sound reinforcement applications and may also be used with other manufacturers’ satellite speakers. When used in subwoofer arrays they provide a precisely controlled cardioid coverage pattern with up to 20 dB front-to-rear attenuation. This minimizes low-frequency backwash allowing closer placement to walls while maximizing microphone gain before feedback and improving the stage monitor sound.
