Walking in a Winter Wonderland – Cameo illuminates numerous winter trails in Great Britain

Great Britain is famous for its magnificent gardens and expansive parks. For a few years now, these have also been a popular visitor destination in winter. During this time, numerous winter and Christmas trails lead through the large gardens and illuminate trees, bridges, buildings and other structures in all LED colours. For elaborate lighting installations, more and more service providers are relying on outdoor lights from Cameo, which have already proven themselves in tough, continuous use in wind and weather in recent years.

SLX – RHS Gardens

When it comes to winter outdoor trails, one should visit the famous model gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS). For the light installations in the expansive gardens of the world’s leading horticultural company designed in 2023 the Rental service provider SLX focussed primarily on the ZENIT W600 LED Outdoor Wash Light. Whether as a façade floodlight, for the three-dimensional colouring of trees or in greenhouses – the ZENIT W600 are real workhorses and are of use everywhere.

Pearce Hire – Anglesey Abbey

Anglesey Abbey is a magnificent old manor house with 46 acres of gardens. Here, too numerous ZENIT W600s have been used. For more flexibility, Pearce Hire combined the ZENIT W600 with the ZENIT W600 SMD Outdoor LED Wash Lights with their 504 SMD 4-in-1 LEDs and up to 41,000 lumens to illuminate trees and bodies of water in powerful colours. “We have been using the W600 models for several years and have always been able to rely on them completely – even in the UK’s continuous winter use with heavy rain, snow, ice and temperatures down to -8°,” confirms Jim Brown from Pearce Hire. “We are always impressed by the versatility of the devices. The ZENIT W600 SMD is impressive both as a strobe on a rock ‘n’ roll stage and as a floodlight that illuminates the beauty of nature in uniform colours.”

Stage Lighting Services – Fonmon Castle

The winter trail stretches for 4 kilometres around the medieval Fonmon Castle in South Wales. To conveniently control the FLAT PRO 12 G2, Q-SPOT 40i and ZENIT B200 outdoor lights distributed all along the route, the Stage Lighting Service team has relied primarily on the XNODE Art-Net nodes from Cameo. “The XNODES were an indispensable part of our set-up,” explains Joe Fletcher from Stage Lighting Services. “We have equipped each control rack with a node that receives the Art-Net signal from QLab and forwards it to the spotlights via DMX. Thanks to the coloured LED displays, we were able to check at any time which universes were receiving data and which were not.”

White Light – Christmas at Stourhead

Every year, the nationally renowned landscape garden in Wiltshire is transformed into a winter trail with glittering tunnels, giant Christmas baubles and sparkling trees in vibrant colours. Again and again, visitors witness new attractions and light installations – illuminated by the Cameo OTOS H5 IP65 Beam-Spot-Wash Hybrid Moving Heads and the FLAT PRO 7 G2 RGBWA LED Outdoor Spotlights. “The OTOS H5s are incredibly bright and versatile and can be used for a wide variety of looks,” confirms Dominic Yates from the responsible integrator White Light.

Illuminate Design – Wychbold & Somerset

At the “Enchanted Gardens” in Wychbold near Birmingham and Hestercombe Gardens in the south-west county of Somerset, Illuminate Design is illuminating two winter trails this year. In both locations, the team placed hundreds of Cameo outdoor fixtures to illuminate the nature and architecture bathing it, in dreamlike light: FLAT PRO and Q-SPOT outdoor spotlights for building façades, ZENIT W600 and W300 IP65 wash lights for stately trees, PIXBAR LED bars, FLAT PRO FLOODs and various other lights. “We want to enhance the effect of nature, so we need a lighting setup with a wide range of colours,” explains Robin Shephard-Blandy from Illuminate Design. “In addition, the devices must be powerful and compact and must not show any noticeable loss of performance even with long cable runs.”

JRG Productions – Royal Pavilion

The Royal Pavilion in Brighton is an exception to the classic winter trails. In front of the old royal palace in the style of the Indian Mughal palaces, thousands of visitors glide across the 1,000 m2 ice rink every day during the winter months of November to January, which has been staged by JRG Productions since 2018. Right from the start, JRG has relied on the outdoor capabilities of the Cameo ZENIT series. The full-service provider has invested further for the current season and now also has the ZENIT W600 SMD in its portfolio. Jason Rattle, JRG Productions: “We immediately realised that the pixel effects were exactly what the Royal Pavilion needed to maintain the wow effect for its customers in the future.” As the Royal Pavilion is located in the immediate vicinity of the sea, the same harsh outdoor conditions apply here as in the extensive landscaped gardens: “Weather influences play a major role in the choice of devices. With the Cameo spotlights, we haven’t had a single failure in years.”

The following Cameo products were used on the winter trails:
