Top sound over long range – LD Systems STINGER G3 provides sound for the Harbour:Candy Festival

The Harbour:Candy Festival in Jomfru Ane Park on the waterfront of the Danish city of Aalborg has already become a tradition: the chilled-out atmosphere and lots of house and lounge music from local DJs don’t just attract music lovers to the waterfront. In addition, the popular open-air event is free of charge, which is why many visitors use the spacious festival area as a meeting place. Harbour:Candy is organised by Blue machines, and, for the sound system, the organisers rely on loudspeakers from the LD Systems STINGER Series.

Since there is no classic stage setup in the open area, there is no need for sound reinforcement via a central line array. Instead, powerful and flexible PA speakers with high throw, good coverage, powerful subwoofers and a powerful sound are needed, so that the electronic dance music can be heard everywhere. Ronni Bang from Bang Production, the service provider responsible for the sound reinforcement at Harbour:Candy, relies on STINGER G3 PA loudspeakers from LD Systems. These all-rounders, known for their powerful qualities, are used as the main PA, with two passive STINGER 15 G3 full-range loudspeakers and four passive STINGER SUB 18 G3 subwoofers. Two passive STINGER 12 G3s are used by Ronni Bang as delay lines, while one active STINGER 12A G3 acts as a monitoring solution for the lineup of DJs.

Ronni Bang has relied on LD Systems in his rental portfolio for many years:

“The STINGER Series has outstanding quality. Besides the sounds, I am particularly impressed by the robustness of the enclosures. In demanding applications, such as at the Harbour:Candy open-air festival, the STINGERs deliver a decent sound pressure level in wind and weather and, with their homogeneous coverage pattern, provide optimum sound reinforcement for the large festival site.”

Rich bass and fine treble

The passive STINGER 15 G3, which delivers 500 watts of continuous power, is highly resilient, and reaches a maximum sound pressure of 127 dB. With their 15” woofers and BMS tweeter drivers featuring specially tuned wave guides, they are the right choice for Harbour:Candy thanks to their rich bass and finely resolving treble. Support and a good boost down to low frequencies of 35 Hz come from four passive STINGER SUB 18 G3 subwoofers, which round off the EDM sound downwards in a powerful and tight manner.

In order to cover the extensive festival area even better (despite the long range of the main PA), Ronni Bang set up two passive STINGER 12 G3s at some distance from the DJ booth as a delay line. For optimal control and monitoring at the DJ Booth, the active STINGER 12A G3 is used. With its digital 500-watt (RMS) Class D power amplifier, this full-range speaker delivers up to 131 dB to put the DJs at their workstations into the right musical mood!
