Jazz in the symphony hall – Cameo illuminates the 2024 FIJAZZ Festival in Alicante

When the summers in Alicante in southern Spain get too hot, jazz fans look forward to a visit to the cool Adda Auditorium. FIJAZZ takes place here every year – a nationally renowned jazz festival that lasts more than two weeks and, this year, featured concerts by Salif Keita, Paquito d’Rivera, and other jazz greats. To harmonise the lighting in the large symphony hall of the Adda Auditorium with the musical diversity of jazz, the team from event technology service provider PORTES used a wide range of Cameo moving lights from the OPUS®, OTOS® and AZOR® series.

Flexible set-up for large and small

The symphony hall of the Adda Auditorium was built for classical music and can accommodate orchestras on its large stage. For Juanpe from PORTES, the main challenge was to find a lighting set-up that would work for both intimate duo concerts and big bands: “We needed a set-up that would allow us to visually reduce the size of the stage if necessary, while at the same time being able to reproduce an orchestra like the Adda Simfonica Alicante with 62 musicians.” As a permanent technical service provider, PORTES has been familiar with the Adda Auditorium for many years and was responsible for the video, lighting, and audio for FIJAZZ.

Customised looks

This year, only moving lights from Cameo were used to illuminate the festival concerts. The six OPUS® SP5+ Profile Spot Moving Heads, which were mounted in the front truss, played a central role here, setting the scene for the respective musicians with their wide zoom and the combination of 500 W cold-white LED and CMY colour mixing. The two other trusses alternated between OPUS® S5 Spot Moving Heads and OTOS® W3 Wash Moving Heads, which provided additional spotlights, gobo projections, and extra depth on the stage. The lighting set-up was rounded off by the compact AZOR® B1 Beam Moving Heads on the floor in the stage background, which were used by PORTES primarily for fan and prism effects and gave each concert an individual look. All Cameo lights were supplied by the Spanish event production company EVENTUAL.
