Game, Set and Match – Rafa Nadal Academy on Mallorca hits an ace with LD Systems

Opened in 2016, the Rafa Nadal Academy has quickly become an internationally acclaimed sports and training center for young tennis talents. The extensive academy complex in Manacor, Mallorca, is not only home to tennis courts and training areas, but also offers accommodation, restaurants, a sports clinic as well as an international school to combine sports and education. You’ll also find several auditoriums and conference rooms for business events and presentations. In 2023, these were newly equipped with sound systems from LD Systems by Spanish AV integrator Sono Music.

For the large conference auditorium covering 390 m2 and providing space for 270 people, the team went for a flown LD Systems MAILA S stereo line array system with 3x MAILA SAT satellites, 1x MAILA SPA power amplifier module and a MAILA SUB 15” high-performance bandpass subwoofer for each side. A delay system with three MAILA SATs and one MAILA SPA each is used halfway along the length of the room to ensure that the elongated room is evenly covered right to the back rows. “MAILA has a great design and offers us the best combination of performance and minimal space requirements,” explains Andreu Femenies, general manager at Sono Music.

Andreu has already gained positive experience with LD Systems installation solutions in the past, for instance the CURV 500 Portable Array Systems, and has therefore once again opted for products from the Adam Hall Group audio brand.

In the smaller conference room with 84 m2 of floor space, Sono Music installed a CURV 500 stereo system with a white finish based on just two CURV 500 S2 array satellites and one SLA SmartLink adapter per side, which connects the satellites to each other using its patented click mechanism. For the low frequency range, a single black CURV 500 I SUB 10″ installation subwoofer is used on the floor, which blends seamlessly with the dark stage floor design.

To provide a powerful sound coverage for the Crossfit area, Sono Music opted for coaxial speakers from the LD Systems ICOA series. “We needed high-impact systems which are robust and reliable and do their job 24/7.” This job has been accomplished by six ICOA 12 A active PA loudspeakers, which have been mounted on the columns of the gym and drive the intense workouts of the Academy talents.
