TOGETHER – “Lights in Alingsås” Shines in Magic Colours Thanks to Irrlicht and Cameo

Lights in Alingsås has been bringing together international lighting designers for over 20 years. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Swedish outdoor light festival took place in reduced form for the first time in 2020, with participants from Sweden only. In 2021, “Lumen Beings” from numerous countries were able to gather once again for the individual installations and to implement magical lighting art projects in conjunction with nature throughout the area. As part of the LIA organisation team, Irrlicht Veranstaltungstechnik GmbH from Germany, headed by Dierk Hartmann, was responsible for the entire equipment management of “Lights in Alingsås”. The Adam Hall Group also took the opportunity to provide a large number of Cameo ZENIT P40 LED PAR spotlights to illuminate one of six projects.

Under the motto “TOGETHER”, the Light Trail meandered for around 3 kilometres through the Swedish town of Alingsås. For project no. 3, “Brunnsparken”, American lighting designer Jessica Krometis used 36 ZENIT P40 IP65 outdoor PARs equipped with elliptical 60° x 10° diffusers to provide uplighting for the trees around the pond. “We receive the designers’ concepts in the spring and try to implement them as optimally as possible with the available spotlights. Generally, only outdoor spotlights are suitable for Lights in Alingsås,” explains Dierk Hartmann, Managing Director of Irrlicht. “We chose the Cameo ZENIT P40 for Jessica Krometis’s installation, as its power, LED configuration and beam angle are very close to the specifications.”

At Lights in Alingsås, there are no restrictions on the design. The entire LIA team makes every effort to implement even the most unusual wishes in the shortest possible time. The core of the entire project is the one-week workshop. Here, the lighting designers and the students work day and night together to realise the lighting art projects for the grand opening. In 2021, over 70,000 visitors flocked to the Light Trail between 1 October and 7 November. “There are a number of creative ideas and requests for changes during the workshop week,” says Dierk Hartmann from experience. This is the ninth time that he has worked with the lighting designers
