5-star sound – LD Systems at the Tyrolean luxury hotel Das Central

Between Tyrolean tradition and the alpine lifestyle, at the 5-star hotel “Das Central” in Sölden, Tyrol, guests will find everything they expect from a perfect alpine holiday: fantastic mountain panoramas, a mix of modern luxury and the romantic Loden style as well as the highest standard of wellness offerings. The “Summit Spa” with its all-round glazed infinity pool is part and parcel of this. The two-storey spa area was built in 2023 as part of an extensive renovation, which also included a new audio system. For the multi-zone sound system in the various indoor and outdoor areas, the integrator responsible – Wilderness Studios – opted for a lean LD Systems setup based on the QUESTRA design and management platform.

Excellent sound, high-quality design and ease of use − these were the three main requirements the hotel management had when they approached Wilderness Studios. “The Central is a luxury hotel. As such, it was important to offer high-quality systems that not only sound classy, but also look classy,” explains Felix Brunhuber, CEO of Wilderness Studios. “We have been working with the Adam Hall Group for many years in various areas, so it made sense to utilise their installation portfolio,” says Florian Fellier, CEO of Wilderness Studios. In consultation with Uli Golka, Technical Support Engineer Integrated Systems for the DACH region, a comprehensive concept was developed for the display and sound system in the new hotel areas.

Multi-zone system

The installation at Das Central comprises a total of six audio zones: in addition to the Summit Skybar including outdoor terrace, pool area and pool terrace, a large relaxation and wellness area on the upper floor and the lobby are also equipped with various LD Systems series. For the indoor areas, the CURV 500 miniature arrays were chosen as standard, some of which were supplemented by CURV 500 I SUB subwoofers. For the outdoor areas, the team opted for the IP55-certified installation speakers from the LD Systems DQOR series, which have already proven their outdoor capability in other wellness resorts, for example in Scandinavia and Slovakia.

Special requirements had to be met for the sound system in the lobby. This meant ensuring that the reception staff could speak to hotel guests undisturbed while the rest of the lobby areas were filled with pleasant background music. The Wilderness Studios team also relied on the directional array dispersion of the LD Systems CURV 500 systems, which are used in the lobby in a white housing design.

Simple control via touch panels

An LD Systems ZONE X 1208D DSP matrix with hybrid architecture and Ethernet and Dante interface acts as the signal centre for the individual audio zones. An LD Systems IPA 424 T 4-channel installation amplifier with QUESTRA integration is used in the lobby. To ensure that hotel staff have access to all important parameters − volume, source selection, etc. – at all times, the system is controlled via LD Systems QTP 8 touch panels with a customised QUESTRA user interface. “Creating user panels with QUESTRA is really easy,” confirms Felix Brunhuber from Wilderness Studios. “You can put everything together exactly as you need it for the customer using drag-and-drop.”
