Precise sound at every turn – LD Systems STINGER G3 in the inline skating arena in Geisingen
In the arena geisingen, everything revolves around inline skating. On 25,000 m2 of infield space, amateur skaters can take their first steps and competitive athletes can compete for national and international titles in front of up to 3,000 spectators. Since 2023, the arena geisingen has had a new indoor sound system for the track and the spectator stands. In order to provide the acoustically demanding hall with a homogeneous sound with high speech intelligibility, the responsible technology service provider to-pro installed a STINGER G3 system from LD Systems.
“The arena geisingen has many smooth surfaces and is very reverberant,” explains Thomas Obeth, owner of to-pro. Added to this is the comparably high background noise level when numerous skaters skate through the hall at high speed. “The customer was dissatisfied with the old sound system, as the partner at the time had installed too few loudspeakers for the area and several revisions did not lead to the desired result.” In the run-up to this year’s agi (arena geisingen international), which is one of the largest and most important international inline skating races, the arena operators decided to install a new sound system, primarily to significantly improve speech intelligibility in the full stands.
“The STINGER G3 series convinced me the first time I heard them and have been in our rental programme for some time now,” confirms Thomas Obeth, who has added more and more LD Systems material to his portfolio in recent years. “Up to now, we have always supplemented the permanently installed system for the arena geisingen international competitions with mobile STINGER systems on the ground from the hire shop in order to achieve functional coverage.” From there, it was not far to the complete STINGER fixed installation in the arena.
In total, to-pro distributed 40 STINGER 12 G3 12″ 2-way bass reflex loudspeakers in the arena geisingen – permanently mounted on the hall ceiling via the STINGER G3 TMB truss mounts, which were slightly modified and integrated into a Hilti rail system. The IPA 424 T 4-channel DSP installation amplifiers act as amplifiers.
As the arena operators were not convinced by the previous installation, which was based on calculations and simulations, to-pro tested the STINGER G3 setup directly in the hall in a test setup in order to check the sound distribution and coverage in practice together with the end customer. “In this way, we very quickly and efficiently achieved a result that convinced everyone,” says Thomas Obeth.
“Our main concern was not to over-stimulate the room. That’s why we used a relatively large number of STINGER G3s to achieve a more even sound distribution at a lower overall level.”

To this end, the STINGER G3 series relies on a BEM waveguide for the tweeter, which reduces reflections from floors and ceilings, prevents side maxima and thus achieves a controlled, homogeneous dispersion behaviour.
The following products were installed in the arena geisingen:
40x LD Systems STINGER 12 G3 12″ 2-way bass reflex loudspeaker
40x LD Systems STINGER G3 TMB truss mount
02x LD Systems IPA 424 T 4-channel DSP installation power amplifier
