In the test at Production Partner: LD Systems MAUI 28 G3

After Anselm Goertz recently had the LD Systems MAILA in the test lab and rated the Modular All-Round Intelligent Line Array as an  “all-round successful system”, the MAUI 28 G3 column PA is now on the test bench. You can find the summary of the test report here.

In the introduction, Anselm Goertz directly refers to the “dilemma” that the new MAUI G3 series presents him with:

“A loudspeaker that configures itself automatically and does not require any external wiring is admittedly difficult for us to test. As a user, however, you are happy for any relief.”

Indeed one thing follows the other: The assembly is described as “child’s play”. “With the solid mechanical connections, a stable and stable overall system is created within a minute, and all this without having to operate any additional fasteners or bolting.”

The most important electro-acoustic innovations of the MAUI 28 G3 also find favour with the test author:

“Due to the cardioid principle in the columns, a directional radiation pattern with ±90° aperture angle is achieved already from 100 Hz upwards. […] Horizontally the radiation is wide and vertically it is controlled narrow over a very wide frequency range, which has a positive effect especially under difficult acoustic conditions.”

The measurement is followed by the obligatory listening test in an anechoic room, which does not allow for practical listening, but is an ideal environment for checking the measurement results acoustically:

“The all-round good measurement results set the bar high for the listening test, which was then fully met. The MAUI system sounds neutral, powerful and pleasant at the same time.”

The conclusion of the LD Systems MAUI 28 G3:

“Compared to the previous models, some innovations and improvements have been introduced that really deserve their name and are not just empty claims. Particularly noteworthy are the broadband cardioid behaviour, the clever use of the twelve small woofers, some of which are equipped with phase plugs as acoustic filters, and the simple option of using a second subwoofer as a supplement. […] For small stages, DJs and also rental, this makes the MAUI 28 G3 a clear recommendation where you definitely can’t go wrong.”
