The Future is Bright and Multicoloured – Cameo Lights Up Opening of New Building at Uni Witten/Herdecke
On 1 October 2021, a new campus building was opened, named the “Zukunftsraum” (future room) by the University of Witten/Herdecke. Its grand opening at the Witten campus was attended by numerous guests, including the President of the EU Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. To showcase the innovative wood hybrid construction that covers an area of approximately 7,000 m2 for the opening ceremony, the responsible full-service provider Lichtschall used over 200 Cameo spotlights.
“The new university building has a clean design and is defined by its sustainable, low-tech concept. To retain this style, it was especially important for us to install as few cables as possible in the corridors of the building. For the outdoor lighting, we needed lamps that could easily withstand several days of wind and weather,” explains Jason Miß, Managing Director of Lichtschall GmbH, who together with his colleague Yannick Paas, is responsible for lighting design and programming.
Indoors
Lichtschall installed 66 battery-powered Cameo ZENIT® B60 B PAR spotlights with integrated W-DMX receivers throughout the university building to illuminate the walls with coloured light cones. “The W-DMX and battery meant that the B60 met all of our requirements and made a perfect contribution to the ambience of the event.” In addition, the ZENIT® DESIGN BRACKET – an optional floor stand for the ZENIT® B60 B – provided a particularly elegant look.
Outdoors
In order to showcase the building in the perfect light from the outside too, Lichtschall used ZENIT® W600 Outdoor LED Wash Lights, which are also controllable via W-DMX. “There were several places where normal cabling of the spotlights would have been problematic – both on the roof and around the building with its numerous entrances and emergency exits. That’s why IP65 floodlights with W-DMX were the first choice for us – and the W600 impressed us right from the start with its consistent dispersion characteristics and excellent colour reproduction,” says Jason Miß.
In addition to the ZENIT® W600, the OPUS® S5 Spot Moving Heads were also able to show off the extent of their talents – both on the roof of the building for the light show and on the stage inside as well as during the after-show party. The FLAT PRO 7 LED spotlights were also used as stage spotlights in conjunction with the PIXBAR 650 C PRO COB LED bar for colourful and consistent illumination of the walls in the large lounge area of the “Zukunftsraum”.
Growing connection
Over the years, Lichtschall has continuously expanded its Cameo portfolio – and is already thinking about the future. “It all began with the FLAT PRO 7 spotlights, then came the PIXBARs and the rest. In the meantime, about 80 percent of our portfolio consists of Cameo spotlights,” explains Jason Miß. “We are currently expanding our portfolio with the ZENIT® B200, the small, battery-powered brother of the W600, and have already incorporated it into our plans for a range of church lighting systems. A brand-new addition to our range is the FLAT PRO 7 G2, which has already proven its worth for tolerance as park lighting during the Hattinger Memorial Week.”
The following Cameo products were used at the University of Witten/Herdecke:
- 16 x Cameo PIXBAR 650 C PRO COB LED Bars
- 24 x Cameo FLAT PRO 7 LED Spotlights
